Eye opener

I've been trying out a new strategy. I haven't made any type of New Year's resolution, for those can always be broken. Since moving into our new house, I've noticed that we have a LOT of stuff. Clutter. Plain and simple. Its actually a bit overwhelming, even though we have double the space of what we had in the townhouse, we are like a gas and seem to fill the extra 1500sq feet. Crazy. On a quest to try and tame this clutter, I came across Flylady.net. She does a wonderful job of breaking everything down into babysteps so that you can start the process of decluttering. Not only that, but she speaks very frequently of our perfectionism and how that gets in the way- i.e. if we can't do anything right and to the fullest extent, why on earth would we do it at all? So, If I don't have a 5 hour stretch to declutter my whole entire home and decorate it etc, why should I start? I end up paralyzed with the enormity of the project. I signed up for her daily words, granted I get like 20 emails a day on many different things, its worth it to keep things in perspective. Through flylady.net, I also came across a book that they wrote to help with Body Clutter. I, like many Americans, suffer from excess lbs of fat. In the book, Body Clutter, it helps to get to the root of why we store all the clutter in our bodies. It may not be a new concept, but it sure is making me look and journal on some things that I've never really faced. Take for instance the recent journal entry challenge- name all the diet programs/exercise programs that you have used to try and lose weight. I came up with 24 at least. TWENTY FOUR schemes dating back from my sophmore year in high school. None of them worked, and I'm lbs heavier than when I started. I thought I'd share the list (not really in any order):
1. Atkins
2. South beach
3. Weight Watchers
4. Pilates
5. Slim in 6
6. 6 week body makeover
7.Gorge Cruise
8.Thin Within
9.Weigh Down Diet
10. Thermoslim
11.Cortislim
12.Tea
13.Kick boxing
14. Victory Gym
15. YMCA gym
16.On campus gym
17. Weight watchers online
18. E-diets
19.Slim fast
20. Numerous other books
21. Email newsletters on health
22. 7 second abs
23. Bought a bike to get more exercise
24. Exercise ball

Crazy huh? I like to try and total up how much money I've spent on all of the above. Perhaps I'm just obsessed with finding the best method, though I don't stick to them. I think its my perfectionism streak coming through, I screw up once, and why bother continuing, I'll only fail. Well this book, Body Clutter, hopefully will help set me on the right path, or at least help me come to terms with it, and allow me to love myself and find the motivation to be healthy.

I'll keep you posted!
